Phoenix – Beauty from Ashes

“…he will give: beauty for ashes; joy instead of mourning; praise instead of heaviness…”
(Isaiah 61:3, TLB)
We have all been through times of mourning, pain, heaviness and ashes.
What God is telling us that despite the ashes he will give you beauty.
Despite the mourning, you will soon find joy.
Despite the heaviness in one’s heart, you will soon be able to lift your hands and praise.
What God is telling us that he wants us to trade our pain, our mourning, even the heaviness in our hearts which leave us broken for Healing.
He wants to give us beauty.
In Greek Mythology and in the Talmud we have the Phoenix. The phoenix is an amazing mythical creature.

The Phoenix is a mythical bird that is cyclically regenerated or born again. The phoenix obtains new life by arising from their own ashes of its predecessor. According to some accounts of the Phoenix, when the phoenix dies in flames and combustion. Then out of ashes the phoenix regenerates into a new and beautiful creature.
We see this illustration vividly in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. ***Spoiler Alert**** I am assuming that by now all have either read or seen the movie, but just in case…the spoiler alert notice is in full affect. There is a scene in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix where Fawkes the phoenix that belongs to Dumbledore dies. He turns in to ashes. Then emerges once again as a beautiful pillar of light, reborn as a new bird, a mystical magical bird with healing. Shining bright, whimsical, happy and care free.
This verse, though not making reference to the illustration of Fawkes, explains how God want’s us to renew ourselves from our ashes just like a phoenix does.
Just like beauty and this new beacon of light emerges from the ashes when a phoenix regenerates, God wants us to become new, renewed, loved, treasured, favored, beautiful beacons of light from our ashes.
The Key for our beauty to arise is that we have to be willing to get up, dust ourselves off, and give up the ashes. You cannot be beauty and still be within the ashes. You cannot have joy while still mourning. You cannot praise with all your might, with heaviness in your heart.

To Quote Elsa from frozen “Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore”.

You have to let go of the old, to become the new shining beacon, pillar of beautiful light he see’s in you.
Today dear reader, are you willing to put your trust in God? Are you willing to trust him with the pain of your past? Are you willing to trust him with the heaviness that fills your heart? Are you willing to step out of the ashes? Are you willing to see your pain, and “let it go”?. Are you willing to forgive others and yourself?
Don’t waste another moment buried deep within the ashes. Today is your day. Now is the moment. leave it all in the past. Turn to God so he can give you the joy you have been missing. Turn to God so you an praise with all your might, Turn to God so that you can step out of the ashes and be this beautiful pillar of light you are.
Today, step out of the ashes and know that you are beautiful.
A Prayer for Today
Father God thank you for sweeping me away from my ashes. Thank you for cleansing me and bringing me peace and joy. Thank you for my beautiful family, beautiful home and the beautiful person I am because of you. I made my choice father to trust in you, to receive your blessings and healing to restore my life. I pray for the person reading this father. May you reading this, become the beacon of light God see’s in you. May you be restored into your full glory as soon as you step out of the ashes. I ask that God provides you with the guidance you need for healing, for joy and to remove any heaviness in your heart and soul. I pray for the strength for you to step out of the ashes, so you too can be beautiful the way God has intended you to be. Amen.
