In the day of trouble he will keep
me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred
tent and set me high upon a rock.”
(Psalm 27:5, NIV)
Have you ever played hide and seek?
Fun isn’t it?
You go around, you find a nice snug place where you can hide, all in the hopes that the seeker will not find you. The key to winning is to find a place where the seeker will not find you.
As an adult I used to play hide and seek from my troubles, my fears and my problems. The bars were my hiding spot, the liquor would wash away my problems, my husband, whom at the time was my boyfriend, would be my seeker to ensure I wouldn’t come home drunk.
Liquor was my refuge.
The bars were my safe haven…. or so I thought.
God is our safe haven. God is our refuge: god is our comfort. God will provide the best hiding spot for you when you need it.
To find his shelter all we need to do is call on his name.
All our worries, all our fears and all our struggles disappears when you call out on the lord. He guides you to take the appropriate steps to get you where you need to go.
Now when I need to hide from my worries, my fears or problems I seek in the comfort of gods words. I hide in the Bible and seek the way. I indulge in his words to wash away my problems the way I once used alcohol to wash them away. I use his words to give me the strength I need when I am feeling weak.
I could be in a crowded train car, but when I submerge myself in his grace, in his words, in his thoughts it is just god and I alone traveling on this train. He is my refuge, my safe haven, my shelter, i can rest assured knowing I can hide in his embrace.
Father I thank you for your comfort. I thank you for your shelter, I thank you for hiding me, I thank you for submersing yourself and your words in me. I thank you for the extra love and care you provide. I know I need not to play child games to hide, when I have you by my side. Once again I love and thank you. Amen.
